Caring for your coop

As with most outdoor products the lifespan of your coop can be dramatically prolonged by taking a few of the following recommend steps.

Your coop has been treated with a base coat of wood preservative and while the wood we use for the majority of this product is highly durable and resistance to decay and rot we strongly recommend that you treat your coop with a high quality varnish or wood preservative before exposing it to the elements and that you re-treat it at least once a year (preferably before the winter season) to maintain the applied preservative and water repellent properties.

We also recommend that you try and position your coop in a protected area which is not overly exposed to the elements.

It would also be beneficial to occasionally spray the locks and stays from time to time with products like WD40 to keep the metal well lubricated.

We also recommend that you clean your coop out regularly and that you liberally dust it (and your hens) with Mite Powder every 3 to 4 weeks. We also use a UK Defra approved poultry disinfectant spray when we clean out our coops. This helps prevent possible poultry diseases.
